ADOPTION 2004

Week of October 31st

We've had a good week.

Sasha did wake up ill on Sunday. Adrian and he stayed home while Carol and Zhenia went to church. We have him on some OTC cold medicine.

Halloween: we don't do Halloween at our house. Thankfully most of the activity in the neighborhood occurred on Saturday night so we had no interruption this day. Of course, having our house 'darkened' as we watched movies just after dark helps.

Monday found Sasha feeling much better; he never had any fever, so off to school he went. In fact, he went the whole week, full days again, for the third week in a row. On Friday he went on his first field trip to Clemmons state park near Clayton; got to ride the school bus (this was a requirement). He seemed to enjoy the trip but was cold after an hour as cooler weather on Friday showed up afterj the rain event we had all-day Thursday. On Saturday he was invited to a birthday party by one of hie first-grade classmates, Cody. Carol took and stayed with him for over two hours. She was surprised at how much fun he was having so they stayed longer than anticipated.

Zhenia continued his 3-times-a-week pre-school class at St. Mary's in Garner. He continues to bring home his 'creations' for Papa to enjoy. Some of them now cover the refrigerator. Zhenia had a field trip of his own on Wednesday --- a trip to Lowes Foods for a lesson on nutrition. Carol also got to enjoy that trip as three groups of kids were in the store together (who planned that?!?).

Behaviors of the boys are continuing slow but steady improvement. Their testing of limits has slowed a little but testing of authority is slowing increasing. I think this is a sign of more comfort with their surroundings and us. The battle of wills, we know, will continue for years to come.

Sunday: We visited Lake Benson park so the boys could burn off some energy.

Sunday: We cleared out some space by the garage so the boys could use their new tools, some scrap wood and their supply of trucks and tractors.

Sunday: Later in the evening ...

Picasso and Rembrandt

Yes, the boys are Wolfpackers already

Monday: Sasha feeling much better. Adrian became ill late Monday afternoon; likely the same head cold that Sasha had.

The boys dressed for school showing how they learned the Wolf symbol with their fingers

Tuesday: Election Day ... the lines were as long as we've seen since moving here. Adrian out of work, sick today.

South Cleveland Fire Station, our voting location

Wednesday: Sasha still sniffling, Adrian worked from home (barely) and Carol began to show symptoms of the same illness late in the day. Zhenia keeps plugging along ...

Zhenia sports his cootie bug; they received that game (another shower gift) this week

Thursday: Adrian returns to work, Carol holding her own against the head cold. The boys, we think, were living some of the characters they saw on Saturday night at Mom Buie's ... when the Trick-or-Treaters visited while they were watching Toy Story 2. They created their own masks and were parading up and down the hall making growling noises ...

Friday: Sasha's field trip ...

Sasha and his 1st grade classmates; Sasha is closest to the ranger's belt

Saturday: A long day outside, lots of work for Zhenia with Papa, lots of play for Sasha at his birthday party, and a visit from 'Uncle' Chris Faust around supper time ...

The boys take a break from riding their bikes in the backyard and observe Mama sewing; BTW, Sasha knows how to sew too

Chris Faust and the boys

Chris Faust joins us for supper; some great pizza from Domino's; the boys LIKE pizza

Whether it was the pizza or Chris, we don't know, but the boys had some energy to release
